Dennis Geist elected to Board of Directors of the Darwin Foundation

Volcanology professor, Dr. Dennis Geist, was appointed to the Charles Darwin Foundation Board of Directors in November 2008.  The CDF is a world-class research organization and the world leader in scientific information on the Galapagos Islands. The Foundation has carried out research for the conservation of the Galapagos ecosystem for almost 50 years. .More information can be found at: http://www.darwinfoundation.org/.

Dennis Geist named to Steering Committee for Ridge 2000

Dr. Geist has been named to the Steering Committee of the Ridge 2000 program. Ridge 2000 is an interdisciplinary program focused on integrated studies of Earth's oceanic spreading centers. The program provides national coordination for studies of deep-sea hydrothermal vents and rifting of the crust. It is sponsored by NSF.

Judy Parrish elected GSA President

 Geology professor Dr. Judy Parrish is the new president of the Geological Society of America.  She will serve a one year term, beginning July 1, 2008. Read more by clicking here.


Bovill Run Field Trip

The Geology of Northern Idaho field trip (aka "The Bovill Run"), held on August 25th, was a great success!  The purpose of the trip was to to promote exchange of ideas among students, staff, and faculty, and to gain an appreciation of the physical and historical geology of north Idaho.
